Dear Gibson Families:
It has been an honor to be a part of the Gibson community! Gibson is a place where students succeed at high levels and where families are involved. It is a beautiful school tucked away in the scenic community of Woodland. It provides a perfect setting for children to grow and bloom. Thank you for sharing your children; they are truly a gift to us.
For those I have not yet met, let me briefly introduce myself. My husband and I moved into this area 7 years ago in search for a quiet area to raise a family. This is my 7th year serving the students and families in Woodland Joint Unified. I completed my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management Information Systems from California State University, Chico. I acquired my multiple subject credential from University of Phoenix and my special education credential from California State University of, Sacramento. Being a life-long learner, I pursued my Administrative Credential from California State University, Sacramento.
My educational career began as I was a paraprofessional and counselor at the non-public school at Families First in Davis. Once I had acquired my special education credential, I was recruited to be a special education teacher for Pat Anderson, which was a non-public school for Sacramento Children’s Group Home. During that time, Sacramento City Unified School District was refining their Therapeutic Center which served students diagnosed as emotionally disturbed and I was given the opportunity to be a part of that endeavor as their 5th grade teacher. I have served Woodland Joint Unified since 2009. During this time I have worked as a vice principal at Lee Middle School and Ramon S. Tafoya Elementary School. I joined Gibson Elementary as the Principal during the 2014-2015 school year.
One of our goals at Gibson Elementary is to serve and nurture all our students. This aim begins with our Transitional Kindergarten class. We are committed to making every year an exceptional experience for all students. Our teachers work together interdependently in order to impact their practice in ways that would lead to better results for students, teams, and our school. Our goal is for teachers to engage in collective inquiry to identify essential student learning, create lesson plans, develop assessments, analyze scores and set achievement goals. Our focus is to ensure that our students receive the best instruction from an action oriented team of teachers.
Your child's elementary school years are a special time in his or her life. During this time children undergo important developmental changes. It is also a time when children become more autonomous and they transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." It is my belief that parents are the first teachers of their children and they play a central role in their child's education. I invite you to participate in open, honest and continuous communication with your child's teachers to ensure a successful home-school partnership. I encourage you to tell our teachers about your child's needs throughout the year so that he or she has "THE BEST" educational experience.
There are several ways to keep "In the Know." For the latest announcements please make sure you check the school website on a regular basis. Please take the time to “like us” on www.facebook.com/gibsongators which is run by our PTA. I would also like for you to sign up for “Remind” which is a free, safe and simple messaging tool that helps us share important updates and reminders with our Gibson families. You may subscribe by text, email or by using the Remind app. Our teams also provide you pertinent information regarding assignments and tests via School Loop on a regular basis. Lastly, please call if you have questions.
As principal, it is important for me that my staff, parents and students become partners in this journey that we have embarked upon. It is essential that all of us come to school every day happy and ready give it our best. A positive attitude will enable us to become problem solvers in a fun nurturing environment.
The passion and dedication of our PTA has continually impacted instruction in our school. Our PTA is an amazing group of people who commit to focus their time, talents, energies and resources for our children's education and welfare. For the community, our PTA sponsors movie and trivia nights, talent shows and fundraisers at local restaurants to name a few. For the school they support quality education by returning money from PTA sponsored fund raisers directly to the school for field trips, supplemental curriculum materials, student learning, staff professional learning, projects, special school programs and workshops. I encourage you to become an active serving member of our PTA.
Thank you in advance for supporting your child's success at school in the classroom and through our parent organizations. Let's all commit to making a greater effort towards communicating with each other. If I can ever be of assistance, please email or call me.
